Have you ever tried to take a photo of six people where four of the individuals are under the age of 10? Surely, it’s almost impossible to get everyone to look at the camera and smile “normally” simultaneously!
Last week we needed to send someone a photo of us but we realised in all our thousands of photos we hadn’t taken one of our entire family since Rourke was born. When we decided to try, we realised why…
This was the one we chose in the end as the best of the many attempts:
This photo is so classic to me – because it lies!!!!
We look like we just happened to all be sitting out on the deck next to the pool and someone walked past and said, “Hey, what a beautiful family! Let me take a quick shot”.
This photo shoot (which only gave us one photo) took ages!
Firstly, we had to find a time when all the boys were home, JP was back from work and Rourke was still awake – not as simple as it might sound. Then who to take the photo? Or does JP have to set up a tripod for his camera with a timer which complicates things when he is key to getting everyone to focus on the task at hand! Then arranging and rearranging bodies, deciding who gets to hold Rourke, then getting the big boys not to ruin the photo with bunny ears and peace signs or pull their fake school photo grins.
And then there was Nate!
Here are his facial expressions in the other 19 shots of the exact same photo we took:
This kid is mischief personified. When he was born, JP wanted to name him Nate DANGER Kloppers! Can you imagine? No lack of personality in this 4-year old and that dimple can and probably will kill one day!
When I posted these pics on my Facebook wall, a friend replied with this:
Why am I not surprised? He certainly wasn’t the first to make the association…
At least we got one decent family photo in the end…
